Menolak Lupa
The Series
Menolak Lupa The Series in general is a combination of mixed media installation work that mostly consecrated in the mean of paying homage to the victims that has been killed in Indonesia's two major incidents. Sailing out as a grim memorial and indictment of violence against Indonesian Chinese community in the 1960s and 1990s, this series mostly seeks to uncover the trauma that has been left or inscribed in the family of the victims. For someone who have been living in fear, trauma, pain and grief for almost half a century, for someone who have never once been acknowledged and for someone who have lost their loved ones, this series hopefully will be able to spark changes, raise awareness and act as a reminder of the subsistence of the incidents as well as a platform to educate more people about these incidents and on the importance of dealing with historical trauma both personally and collectively.
Remembering the Unremembered
Remembering the Unremembered is a mixed media installation that was inspired by the seemingly lost and forgotten reality of the past horrific events due to the influx of information today. The inspiration also came from the artist's family who has been living in fear and trauma for almost more than half a century. This work depicts a life - size drawing accompanied with a collection of small A5 postcards. The drawing reflects the mood, feelings and ambience and despite having such confronting size, it has to have the feel where the audiences are able to feel the emotions left in the crime scene. Whereas the series of postcards act as a small embodiment of the emotions that the audience get to take and carry together even after leaving the work behind.
Remembering the Unremembered II
Remembering the Unremembered II is a continuation experimentation from the previous works. Instead of displaying them as a whole. Some of the pieces are taken out to create that positive and negative effects to add more reading to the work and at the same time it also symbolises how the artist recollect the forgotten memories and then incorporating them in this work.
Menolak Lupa - Remembering the Unremembered
Menolak Lupa - Remembering the Unremembered or in English also means Never Forget - Remembering the Unremembered serves the purpose of educating more people so they won't forget and hopefully will be able to learn from what had happened. This work was created in a form of a house, where the exterior took inspiration from traditional churches. Unlike how churches are normally covered with bright lighting, the interior of this work was surrounded by dark and burned charcoal drawings. Plywood was chosen as the material to emblematise the material that the civilians used to use as a blockade to protect their shops and residential during the riots. And charcoal was chosen to emblematise all the burned victims, buildings and also objects. Opposite the front and black wall were two words written in Jawi. The word at the back means 'dahia' or in English means 'victim' and opposite that word is 'murtakib aljarima' or in English also means 'perpetrator'.

Menolak Lupa II
Menolak Lupa II is a continuation series from Menolak Lupa - Remembering the Unremembered. In this new series, the artist has chosen to recreate her previous drawings and turned them into a series of postcard prints. Etching was chosen as the medium to emphasise on how old postcard prints were printed in the past and also to have those feelings of old political prints as well. Postcard in general is often associated as a political object and that has been the inspiration upon creating this work in postcard size. Postcards are also more easily accessible to the public and it's also more collectible in this pandemic situation. Postcards could travel where we can't in this situation. And it can also be quite a sentimental object that we can use to express our love and longing in a form of writing and sending it physically to other people in our presence. The prints are deliberately reversed to add on more reading to the whole works. The plates have the original images whereas the prints have the reversed images. The artist kept the plate and the prints travelled and kept by other people.
